He hopes\u00a0to create spaces for young people to\u00a0talk about healthy relationships.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Please continue to pray for this group as they continue their training and healing process. \u00a0In August, they participate in the 10-week course\u00a0<em>Es.pe.re<\/em>, which focuses\u00a0on forgiveness and reconciliation. \u00a0We are excited because this is an internationally recognized\u00a0course and its methodology received an award from\u00a0UNESCO. \u00a0Their goal is to\u00a0bring better\u00a0understanding to the emotions, attitudes and beliefs around social and structural violence. \u00a0<em>Es.pe.re<\/em>&#8216;s trained facilitators will be offering the\u00a0course to this group, as well as to the women&#8217;s group in Oaxaca. \u00a0Since they know our limited funding, they will charge us only the cost of materials and transportation\u00a0for the facilitators. \u00a0Patty and I had the opportunity to take this course at a Catholic Church in downtown Oaxaca and it was such a blessing for us!<\/p>\n<p>Once this second module finishes at the end of the year, the plan is to continue to accompany and train\u00a0them in deeper cultural understandings and perpetuations of abuse and violence as well as offer them practical ministry skills including facilitating groups, and participatory Bible studies. \u00a0We envision a group of Christian leaders with a deep theological, social and practical understanding of abuse, violence and oppression, who are\u00a0prophets, activists, and peacemakers in their\u00a0families, churches, and communities. \u00a0Please pray for the Holy Spirit to continue His work in each participant, giving them the courage to continue their own process of healing as God also provides them with\u00a0opportunities to share what they have learned with others and minister to both abuse victims and perpetrators.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-report-this\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/clauson?moderation_action=report_form&object_type=post&object_id=1504&width=250&height=300\" class=\"thickbox\" title=\"Report This Post\">Report This Post<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On June 1st, a diverse group of 32 Christian leaders, women and men, young and old, from Covenant churches, other denominations and non-profits in Oaxaca,\u00a0celebrated the completion of\u00a0the 8 week Mending the Soul (MTS) course. \u00a0They shared some of\u00a0the amazing ways the Holy Spirit\u00a0has been at work in their\u00a0lives giving them\u00a0power to see and name [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":111,"featured_media":1420,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[903,172],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1504","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-maem","category-oaxaca"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
