Haesook Baek, director of the Korean congregation’s Vacation Bible School (VBS), said she was thrilled to have the people return for a second year to volunteer with the outreach to children.
The Korean congregation had rented the church building for 14 years before they purchased it. The two churches had worked together on producing a VBS for the last seven of those years.
In total, volunteers came from 11 different churches, including the Mongolian and Chinese fellowships (neither of them Covenant) that now share the building with the Korean congregation, Baek said. The unusual mix attracted the attention of a local Korean TV station, which filmed the last day of the event for a news broadcast.
Donna Sticken, one of the former Glenview members returning to help for a second year, says she was excited that the VBS was multicultural and involved so many congregations.
“My heart overflows when I see all the crew leaders from all the different churches holding hands and praying together and working side by side in the name of Jesus,” Sticken said. “After last year, we all promised we would be back. It was so much fun.”
