Mary Putera is an Ordained ECC pastor serving as the interim pastor at Sunset Covenant Church in Beaverton Oregon.\u00a0 Mary also serves nationally and globally in peace building and community resiliency efforts.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the past two years I have lost 4 clergy colleagues from the ECC Covenant Ministerium, not to death; but to death of hope.\u00a0 Loss of Hope that the ONE who befriends us is actually powerful enough to form us into deeply respectful, mutually honoring, diverse and embracing, loving mission friends.\u00a0 History, because it is systemically entrenched, seems to have a mighty hold on us believers.<\/p>\n<p>I am heartbroken by these losses.\u00a0 These are women and men of God who truly have been befriended by God and separated from our ECC church community.\u00a0 These pastors <strong><em>are<\/em><\/strong> all called by God, affirmed by our community, and became dismembered from us.\u00a0 Is it because history forms us more strongly than Hope?\u00a0 I wonder. \u00a0For me there is not blame, just lament, lament that where we are is not where we could be.\u00a0 Lament that it is possible, that where we are headed is not where God would have us be going for the sake of, with God, giving birth to the Kingdom community here on earth.<!--more--><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/bge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/96\/2015\/05\/IMG_2098.jpg\" rel=\"prettyPhoto[1901]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1907\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/bge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/96\/2015\/05\/IMG_2098-210x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2098\" width=\"210\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/bge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/96\/2015\/05\/IMG_2098-210x300.jpg 210w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/bge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/96\/2015\/05\/IMG_2098-717x1024.jpg 717w, http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/bge\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/96\/2015\/05\/IMG_2098.jpg 1715w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/><\/a>When the church is divided, and draws lines in the sand dividing God\u2019s created beings, how can we be people standing with open invitation of Christ to a world so enduring suffering?\u00a0 I wonder if <strong><em>too<\/em><\/strong> often, we are <strong><em>too sure<\/em><\/strong> that we know the intent, the mind, the heart of God.\u00a0 Perhaps more often we should remember that God\u2019s ways are to <strong><em>vast and wonderful<\/em><\/strong> for us to know.\u00a0 Perhaps more often we can learn to stand in the tensions of being unsure, rather than pain of being dismembered. Could it be that <strong><em>too often<\/em><\/strong>, we walk thin lines of commitments to embrace, to affirm, to welcome\u2026 sort of, somewhat, sometimes and we find this acceptable.\u00a0 For the four pastors in the past 2 years, and the 7 others I know from the last 5 years, and the others I don\u2019t know, who no longer are in our ECC community, I raise the sound of lament and prayer. \u00a0For these were all called by God, affirmed by our community, and became dismembered from us because it might be that history in all its ideological strength, forms us more strongly than Hope.\u00a0 May God forgive us, Christ pray for us and the Holy Spirit help us mightily to do better as we walk along. \u00a0And may we be made new, everyday, in the washing waters of the Lord.\u00a0 Oh Lord how we need you.<\/p>\n<p>Amen<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-report-this\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.covchurch.org\/bge?moderation_action=report_form&#038;object_type=post&#038;object_id=1901&#038;width=250&#038;height=300\" class=\"thickbox\" title=\"Report This Post\">Report This Post<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rev.
