We got them!\u00a0 We got them!\u00a0 We got them!\u00a0 We finally<\/em><\/strong> purchased our tickets and we’re on our way to Mozambique … TO LIVE !!!\u00a0<\/strong> <\/em>(Alright, I’m a little excited.)<\/p>\n

It seems like we’ve been waiting for this moment forever<\/em><\/strong>!<\/p>\n

We’ve been working toward this day for the last 10 years!\u00a0 During these years we have been busily preparing for this day.\u00a0 We sold our home and downsized so we could eliminate all of our debt.\u00a0 I went to Seminary.\u00a0 We helped start the Global Outreach Ministry at Life Covenant Church.\u00a0 We helped to start the two Melanie Centers (Orphanages) in Beira and Chimoio.\u00a0 We’ve seen sixteen churches planted and hundreds of new believers baptized.\u00a0 God has been good … and now we are going to meet Him in what He’s been doing.<\/p>\n

I feel excited, overjoyed, freaked out and intimidated.\u00a0Then I stop and remind myself of WHO is calling me, WHO it is that empowers me, and WHO it is that does everything anyway … It is my faithful God.\u00a0 I am a tool in my masters hands.\u00a0 I pray that I am a faithful tool and a ready tool so that I can be used to bring Him glory.<\/p>\n

So, what do I expect life to look like in Mozambique?\u00a0 I’ll sweat.\u00a0 I’ll sweat a lot more as we get into the hot rainy months of December and January.\u00a0 I’ll make a lot of mistakes.\u00a0 I’ll learn a new language.\u00a0 I’ll hang out with pastors and evangelists and we’ll talk theology.\u00a0 I’ll go to the beach and play in the Indian Ocean.\u00a0 I’ll learn how to shop and cook in new ways.\u00a0 I’ll learn to drive on the “wrong” side of the road.\u00a0 And, then for fun I’ll sweat some more!\u00a0 This will be my life, and I can hardly wait!<\/p>\n

As for Al … he’s so excited!\u00a0 He’s excited about starting\u00a0this new adventure!\u00a0 He’s looking forward to hanging out with a bunch of Mozambicans and talking about God. He can’t wait to be in vocational ministry.\u00a0 And the thought\u00a0that his job\u00a0is to\u00a0live out the first and second commandments:\u00a0‘loving God and loving people’, brings him huge amounts of joy!<\/p>\n

So, now it’s time\u00a0to start packing our bags (twenty of them) and go start this new life.\u00a0 We leave Monday, September 14th and arrive in Beira, Mozambique on Wednesday the 16th.\u00a0 We take with us all those suitcases, two beautiful little boys, and the love and support of so many friends.\u00a0 We owe you such a debt of gratitude.\u00a0 You have been our faithful family.\u00a0 You have made many sacrifices of time, money and prayers for us and for the work of our Lord.\u00a0 To say thank you seems so small when what we want to do is have a parade in your honor!<\/p>\n

In the end all I can say is thank you and\u00a0we love you!<\/p>\n

Alex worked with\\\/helped lead the (Rolling Hills Covenant) high school group, and thought he would always live in the USA. When Global Ministry began, Alex went to Mozambique with a group from their church. While there, God worked in his heart, showing him the need for his presence in an overseas setting. For the last six years, Alex and Melanie have led the Global Ministry at Life Covenant (Torrance CA), a ministry focused in the country of Mozambique. Begun in mud huts without electricity or water, the ministry now includes two orphanages with water, electricity, and teaching facilities. A group of believers meets at each orphanage. The ministry is all Mozambican-led by leaders with a passion for caring for orphans, addressing the needs of poverty and injustice, evangelism to identified unreached people groups, and the development of biblicaly sound churches. To date, nine churches have been planted, and two more are in process. With the goal of living into a holistic ministry, Global Ministry has begun several self-sustainment projects. Gardens have been planted, and local people maintain a chicken farm and a corn and rice milling business. Because Global Ministry is led by all Mozambicans, Alex and Melanie will be their first full time missionaries. Most local pastors have just a 6th grade education and little or no theology or Bible education, so Alex and Melanie will help provide that training.
