I’m searching to try to find words to express my heart. How can I share the heartache of knowing that all across Mozambique children are suffering and dying from hunger.\u00a0It is estimated that 80% of Mozambican children suffer from chronic malnutrition.\u00a0What makes this statistic even harder is that now we are experiencing a drought.\u00a0Nothing can grow.\u00a0Temperatures are in the 100’s. Their crops and their animals are dying.\u00a0 Water is scarce and the water available is often not drinkable so children get dysentery. On top of all this the local political parties are at odds and civilians are being killed.\u00a0Now is the time to pray!<\/p>\n

Please know that the children at the Melanie Centers are safe and well cared for.\u00a0However, the people in our church communities are suffering great hardship and the most vulnerable are always the children. Would you please commit to praying with us?\u00a0All of the pastors in and around the city of Beira will be gathering Saturday for a time of prayer.\u00a0 They will be praying at 9:00 am here in Mozambique.\u00a0 If you would like to join them in prayer at the same time it would be 11:00 pm on the west coast.\u00a0But know that your prayers are welcome at any time!<\/p>\n

Please pray for the following:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. That God would send rain.\u00a0 We need rain for the crops as well as for the water supply.<\/li>\n
  2. Pray for food.\u00a0 Families are coming to the Melanie Centers in greater numbers than ever asking for food.\u00a0 Pray that God would provide a way.<\/li>\n
  3. Pray for peace between the Frelimo and Renamo political parties.\u00a0 Renamo has been blocking roads, stopping cars, and killing civilians.\u00a0 They have issued a March deadline, stating that they will be taking over the northern half of Mozambique at that time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Thank you so much for your love and prayers. We are trusting God for a way through.<\/p>\n

Alex worked with\\\/helped lead the (Rolling Hills Covenant) high school group, and thought he would always live in the USA. When Global Ministry began, Alex went to Mozambique with a group from their church. While there, God worked in his heart, showing him the need for his presence in an overseas setting. For the last six years, Alex and Melanie have led the Global Ministry at Life Covenant (Torrance CA), a ministry focused in the country of Mozambique. Begun in mud huts without electricity or water, the ministry now includes two orphanages with water, electricity, and teaching facilities. A group of believers meets at each orphanage. The ministry is all Mozambican-led by leaders with a passion for caring for orphans, addressing the needs of poverty and injustice, evangelism to identified unreached people groups, and the development of biblicaly sound churches. To date, nine churches have been planted, and two more are in process. With the goal of living into a holistic ministry, Global Ministry has begun several self-sustainment projects. Gardens have been planted, and local people maintain a chicken farm and a corn and rice milling business. Because Global Ministry is led by all Mozambicans, Alex and Melanie will be their first full time missionaries. Most local pastors have just a 6th grade education and little or no theology or Bible education, so Alex and Melanie will help provide that training.
