WILLMAR, MN (November 4, 2011) – Today is the last registration day for church groups planning to attend the workshop “Imagine: A Day for Those Serving Children and Families,” which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 12 at First Covenant Church. The workshop is free.
The Children and Family Commission of the Northwest Conference is sponsoring the gathering. Imagine is designed to connect people who work with kids, share concepts that can be applied to local ministry, and provide a place to share ideas and ask questions.
The workshop will focus primarily on discussing what is biblical teaching, and how do children’s workers help parents teach the Bible at home?
The primary presenter will be Anne-Marie Finsaas, who serves as minister to children at Colonial Church in Edina. Finsaas holds an MA in Children’s and Family Ministry and has taught at national and local children’s conferences, as well as Bethel Theological Seminary as an adjunct professor.

Church Helps Ministry Exceed Food Donation Goal
INDIANAPOLIS, IN (November 4, 2011) Hope Covenant Church members helped a local grocery store far surpass its goal of collecting food for Wheeler Mission Ministries, when Covenanters as well as other volunteers staffed a display at Marsh Foods to support the statewide Hoosiers Fighting Hunger Campaign. The volunteers from the church, store, and the missions Servant Leadership Training Program surpassed the manager’s goal halfway through the month-long campaign and wound up raising $14,000 in food donations.
Wheeler Mission is a faith-based organization that has been part of the Indianapolis community for 118 years providing homeless shelters, residential programs, and addiction recovery programs for men, women, and children. They served more than 260,000 meals in 2010.
“Aside from the collections, we talked to thousands of people and had a wonderful opportunity to educate the public about Wheeler’s many services,” says church member Janet Ashman. “Another blessing we experienced was to be able to listen to people who were having difficulties in their own lives and to share with them contacts for community services for their own needs.”
She added, “Sometimes, we encountered people who just seemed to be lonely and needed someone to talk to. I am glad to say it was heartwarming at the end of these encounters to see a smile and hear a thank you for our time.”
Webinar Focuses on Vetting Undocumented Volunteers
CHICAGO, IL (November 4, 2011) – “Vetting Undocumented Volunteers: Tips for Policies and Procedures” is the next free webinar sponsored by the Center for Youth Ministry Studies at North Park University.
The webinar will be held Thursday, November 10 from noon to 1 p.m. It will feature David Weinstein with The Law Project and members of Christian Community Development Association.
